Vondetta Sawyers age 75 of the Woodway Community in Pennington Gap, VA was born in Rose Hill, VA on Saturday, February 15, 1941 and passed away Saturday, September 24, 2016 at Heritage Hall in Big Stone Gap, VA. She had been a homemaker and a member of the Woodway Church of God. She loved caring for her grandchildren and attending church. She was preceded in death by her husband Edgar Sawyers, one daughter Connie Christian and her parents Dewey and Spark Young. Vondetta is survived by one son Edgar Dwayne Sawyers, one daughter Sherri Regina Thompson and husband, Travis. She is also survived by four grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, two sisters Becky Penley and husband, Roger, Bobbie Stanifer and a sister-in-law Marie Langley. A Funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday, September 28, 2016 at the Province Funeral Home Sanctuary in Pennington Gap, VA with Joe Dearry officiating. Burial will follow at Lee Memorial Gardens in Woodway, VA. Visitation will be from 1:00 PM Wednesday until the time of the service.
