Obituary

Verlin Roy Martin, Sr., 81, of Pennington Gap went to be with the Lord on Saturday, February 3, 2024 at his residence.

Verlin was born on November 12, 1942 in Lee County, Virginia to the late James Arnold Martin and Mary Alice King Martin. He proudly served his country in the United States Army. After serving his country he was employed by Chrysler Airtemp in Dayton, Ohio before moving to Virginia and he began his employment at West Moreland Coal Company as an electrician until his retirement. He faithfully attended St. Charles Church of God. Some of his interest and hobbies were hunting, fishing, flea marketing, bingo, and bowling. Verlin was a loving and devoted husband, caring father, faithful grandfather, loyal brother, and special friend to many.

Along with his parents he is preceded in death by his daughter, Wanda Alice Martin; and brother, Jackie Douglas Martin.

Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 57 years, Violet Jean Anderson Martin; sons, Verlin Roy Martin, Jr. and wife Mary, and David Allen Martin and wife Shannon; beloved and cherished grandchildren, Alesia Jean Wells, Michael Allen Martin, Christopher James Martin, and Grace Nicole Martin; sisters, JoAnn Capps and husband Eric, and Brenda Jones and husband Clifford; along with several cousins, nieces, and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM on Thursday, February 8, 2024 at Pennington Gap Funeral Home. A funeral service will follow with Pastor Roy Webb officiating.

A military committal service will follow at Cecil-Fry Cemetery with military honors being provided by VFW Post 5715 and Virginia National Honor Guard. Family and friends serving as pallbearers.
