Velma Marie Russell, age 91 of the Rawhide Community of Keokee, VA was born in Keokee, VA on Monday, May 18, 1925 and departed this walk of life on Saturday, July 2, 2016 at her home. Velma was a homemaker and also a member of the Rawhide Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl Russell; her parents, Raymond and Eula Slemp; her son, Douglas Russell and also an infant son; one daughter, Evelyn McCracken; two brothers, Elmer and Bud Slemp and two sisters, Wanda Slemp and Retha Garrett. Velma is survived by four sons, Howard, Ricky, Gene and wife Debra and Darrell and wife Carolyn all of Keokee, VA; four daughters, Donna Smith and husband Robert, Lori Garrett and husband Rod, Sue Ratcliff and husband Jeff and Lisa Lee, all of Keokee, VA; sixteen grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren; one brother, Paul Slemp and wife Linda of Illinois; two sisters, Joyce McKinney and husband Bob and Brenda Carpenter, both of Tennessee. Also numerous nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, July 5, 2016 in the Province Funeral Home Sanctuary in Pennington Gap, VA with Rev. Bob Maggard officiating. Visitation will be held from 1:00 P.M. Tuesday until time of services. Burial will follow at the Gates Cemetery in the Newtown Community of Keokee, Va. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
