Obituary

Veach Ronald McPherson, 84 years old, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, born February 7, 1941 went home to be with his Lord and Savior on July 1, 2025 at Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center, Knoxville, TN. He passed away from an undetected cancer, one of mankind's greatest foes. He made his living in early life by coal mining and operating heavy equipment. While growing up in Jonesville, VA, he became one of the greatest storytellers of its people and their lives from his early childhood and throughout his life. He developed a great love for the people of Jonesville, and became a gold mine of fascinating personal histories over his 84 years. He was often referred to as the Paul Harvey of Jonesville, "and now you know the rest of the story". He never lacked an audience of grandchildren, children, nieces, nephews, friends & strangers, who would now give anything to hear one more tale.

Veach had a hard early life that began in poverty in a two bedroom house with six sisters and a brother. This formative experience inspired a life-long generosity; he was truly someone who would give strangers the shirt off his back. His wife of 33 years, Brenda, remembers he was late to their first date because he stopped to help a family with a flat tire. He bought food for the children and gave the man the fifty dollars he was going to use to pay for their date. He always said he was a "Man's Man", and to him, that meant making sure everyone in his circle was taken care of. He went to the ends of the earth to come through for his family, even when he had nothing to give. His grandchildren, children, nieces, and nephews looked up to him as a shining example of kindness, humor, and humility. He was bigger than life, but the salt of the earth. A true blue collar rebel who worked all his life for his little piece of Heaven, his farm on Sugar Run. He lived his life for his beloved wife, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, siblings, and extended family, and loved them all unconditionally.

He is preceded in death by his son, David Landon McPherson, his father, Veach Moses McPherson, his mother, Jerusha Olive Welch McPherson, his sisters Gloria McPherson, Billie McPherson Whetzel, Beatrice McPherson Cheek, Dextra McPherson Smith, and Donna Pauline McPherson Minor, as well as his brother, John McPherson.

He is survived by his wife, Brenda McPherson, sister, Clara K. McPherson, children, Jodi McPherson Kemple, Tracy McPherson, & Shannon Pillion, step-children, Robert Baranowsky & Deborah Gibson, grandchildren, Megan Kemple, Jalan McPherson Cridlin, Garrett Dailey, Kenzi McPherson, McKenzie Wylie, JL Kemple, Grayson Baranowsky, Ethan Thomas, Lillian Baranowsky & Alli Pillion, and five great-grandchildren, Wyatt Dailey, Dane Dailey, Jameson Dailey, Lucas Dailey, and Keeran Slade Wylie.

The family will receive friends from 5:00PM to 7:00 PM Monday, July 7, 2025 at Powell Valley Funeral Home. A funeral service will follow with Pastor Tracy McPherson officiating.

A private family burial will be held at McPherson Cemetery on the family farm.
