Thelma Francis Carter Wood, 77, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, December 3, 2025, at Lee County Community Hospital in Pennington Gap, Virginia.

Thelma was born on February 25, 1948 to the late Glennie and Georgia Carter in Fayetteville, West Virginia.

Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by a daughter, Ursula Witt; four sisters, Betty Carter, Barbara Carter, Lillie Mae Carter, and Elizabeth Carter; three brothers, Roger Carter, Laerrie Carter and Charles Carter.

Those left to cherish her memory are her four sons, Adrian (Julie) Witt, Mark (Tina) Witt, Michael (Sandra) Witt, and Arron (Athina) Witt; two daughters, Betty (Don) Guthe and Sharon (Mike) Foster; a brother, Roy Carter; a sister, Alice Lucille Carter; as well as many grand children, great grand children, great great grand children, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

The family will receive friends on Monday, December 8, 2025, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Pennington Gap Funeral Home. A funeral service will follow at 1:00 PM with Pastor Mark Tabor officiating the service.

A committal service will follow at Pennington Memorial Cemetery. Family and friends will serve as pall bearers.
