Ruth M. Jessee age 94 of Pennington Gap, VA was born Saturday, April 21, 1923 in Ewing, VA and passed away Tuesday, December 26, 2017 at the Lonesome Pine Hospital in Big Stone Gap, VA. She graduated with the first graduating class of Thomas Walker High School. She was a long time member of the First United Methodist Church in Pennington Gap. She was in banking for several years and later owned Ruths Gift Shop. She enjoyed canning and collecting antiques. Ruth was a very generous and loving person. Her first husband John M. Miner died in 1955 and she married James E. Jessee on August 17, 1959 and moved to Pennington Gap. She was preceded in death by her husbands John M. Miner, Sr. and James E. Jessee, parents William T. and Flora (Smith) Jenkins, one grandson Johnny Merrill Miner III, brothers Ed (Elizabeth), Walter (Lucille), Willard (Shirley), Smith (Barbara), Truman (Maxie), and Herbert Jenkins, sisters Hester Jenkins and Pauline (Harry), Montgomery, two brothers and one sister who died in infancy, four nephew and one niece. Ruth is survived by her only child John M. Miner II of Jonesville, VA, one sister Georgia J. Rowlett, eleven nieces and three nephews, many great and great great and great great great nieces and nephews. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 pm Wednesday, January 3, 2018 at the Province Funeral Home Sanctuary in Pennington Gap, VA. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM January 4, 2018 at the United Methodist Church in Pennington Gap, VA with Rev. Kyle Burnett, Rev. Norman Clark and Dr. Jason Ivy officiating.
