Ruby Lee Easterling Garrett, 85 of Jonesville, Virginia passed away Saturday, May 30th at Holston Valley Medical Center surrounded by her family. She was born August 8, 1929 in Appalachia, Virginia and lived her youth in various towns in Wise County, Virginia. Prior to becoming a fulltime homemaker for 56 years, she worked for C&P Telephone Company as an operator. She was a loving sister, mom, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. She brightened so many peoples lives with her love and will be greatly missed.
She accepted Christ as her Savior in her thirties and was a member of Admant Baptist Church where she was a nursery worker and then the nursery director for almost 30 years. She took care of hundreds of babies and toddlers who are now grown with children and grandchildren of their own. In addition, she was a Youth Director with her late husband and friends, Betty, and the late Ralph Reynolds. She worked tirelessly helping the youth to raise money for summer trips to various amusement parks. She was a wonderful cook, baker, and candy maker, often sharing her sweets with friends. She enjoyed taking care of her family, crocheting and doing crafts often using her talents in making items for various charities to sell or raffle.
She is was proceeded in death by her parents, Minnie and Edgar Easterling; her husband of 61 years, Quintin Garrett, Sr.; one son, Beau Garrett, and three brothers, Bill Easterling, Harvey Easterling and Edgar Easterling.
She is survived and will be greatly missed by her two sons, Sandy Garrett and wife Jan of Jonesville, Virginia and Mike Garrett of Woodway, Virginia and her daughter, Margi and husband Wayde Travis of Jonesville, Virginia; her three grandsons, Jamie Garrett and wife Hannah of Jonesville, Virginia, Kris Garrett of Kingsport, Tennessee, and Tyler Garrett of Woodway, Virginia and one granddaughter, Jessica Childress and husband Kevin of London, Kentucky; three great-grandchildren, Gracie Garrett and Emmy Garrett of Jonesville, and Kaleb Garrett of Jonesborough, Tennessee; two sisters, Lois Stallard of Wise, Virginia and Helen Hamm of Coeburn, Virginia; one brother, Bob Easterling of Coeburn, Virginia; and a host of extended family and friends.
She was taken care of for over two years by the staff and nurses at Lee Regional Medical Center, Holston Valley Hospital, Lee Rehab, Mountain View, Bristol Regional, Select Specialty, and Ridgecrest Manor. She had wonderful caretakers at home as well. Dorothy Henderson, Melinda Lambert, Jennifer Pridemore, Shannon Johnson, Barb Combs, Joyce Petty and Peggy Thomas took great care of her after her hip surgery in 2013. Her nurses, Melinda Williams, Derick and Erin Edens, provided wonderful care of her in her home before she passed away. The family is grateful these individuals came into her life and showed her such care and love.
In accordance to her wishes, there will be no visitation, viewing, or funeral. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Tuesday, June 2, 2015 at Lee Memorial Gardens in Woodway, VA. Those wishing to go in procession should meet at the funeral home at 1:30 P.M. Paul Davis Jr will be officiating.
Memorial contributions can be made to local food pantries. Mom always wanted to feed anyone who came to her home and she didnt want anyone to be hungry.
