Rev. Edward C. Woodard, age 80 of the Occoonita Community of Jonesville, VA was born in Lee County, VA on Sunday, January 27, 1935 and died peacefully Sunday, December 6, 2015 at the Lee Health and Rehab in Pennington Gap, VA after a long battle with liver disease. Ed had been a coal miner, a U.P.S driver, owned and operated a gas station and worked for Powell Valley Electric, but his favorite job was being a minister, starting in 1972 when he was ordained. He also preached in various locations for 43 years before retiring. He was also a member of the First Baptist Church in Jonesville, VA. He fought the fight and finished the course, his victory is won. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Sandy Woodard; one infant daughter, Mary Christine Woodard; his parents, H.P. and Unia Woodard; two sisters, Sherrie Woodard and Kitty Walker; two brothers, Lee Woodard and Woody Woodard. Ed is survived by his wife, Wanda Woodard; one son, John Edward Woodard and wife Kim of Pennington Gap, VA; two daughters, Jeaneen Riggs and husband Clyde of Tazewell, TN and Susan Wallen and husband Bill of Blackwater, VA; nine grandchildren Justin C. Edward Woodard, Autumn Brittney Nelson, Tracy Lynn, Angelia Dawn, Melissa Ann, Kelli Michele, Kandice Elaine, Jena Megan and Justin Harvey, eleven great-grandchildren, Elizabeth Ann, Ashley Nicole, Courtney Paige, Tyler Vincent, Jasmine Alexis, Christian Wayne, Xander Oneil, Presley Autumn Nelson, Kasen Edward Woodard, Garrett Lee and Gabriel Earl, one brother, Hershel 'Pete' Woodard and wife Jackie of Jonesville, VA; two sisters, Betty Gifford of Chesapeake, VA and Loraine Leer of Port Orchard, WA. five stepchildren, Robin Demonbrean and husband Charlie of Morristown, TN, Belinda Busler and husband David of Dandridge, TN, Jimmy Haynes and wife Janie of Stickleyville, VA, Bobby Haynes and Johnny Haynes, both of Jonesville, VA; seven step-grandchildren and seven step-great-grandchildren. Also numerous nieces, nephews, and a host of friends. He will be greatly missed by his trusty companion 'Lucky'. Funeral services will be held at 8:00 P.M. Wednesday, December 9, 2015 in the Province Funeral Home Sanctuary in Jonesville, VA with Rev. Mike Humfleet and Chuck Shackleford officiating and Justin Woodard delivering the Eulogy. Visitation will be held from 6:00 P.M. Wednesday until time of service. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Thursday, December 10, 2015 at Lee Memorial Gardens in Woodway, VA. Family and friends are asked to meet at the funeral home at 10:00 A.M. Thursday to go to the cemetery. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
