Mary Evelyn Pace Garrett, age 62 of Pennington Gap, VA, left this life to live eternally with her Savior Jesus Christ and our Heavenly Father on July 18th, 2025. Mary Evelyn is the daughter of the late Cecil and Mary June (Jessee) Pace. She was preceded in death by her husband A.W. Garrett, 2 brothers, Jesse Pace Parsons and Judas "Jim" Pace, and 1 sister, Edith "Sue" Fleenor.

Mary was a retired homemaker who spent many years working as a cook and restaurant crew manager, most recently at the local Hardee's where she greeted everyone with a smile and was dedicated to giving her customers exceptional service. She was no stranger to hard work and was determined to give her children a better life. She accomplished that goal along with many others. She was a friend to many and never met a stranger. She loved her family and was extremely proud of her grandsons. She also loved her church family at New Life Ministries where she was an active member, faithfully serving the Kingdom of Heaven. Her life was a testimony in and of itself, as Mary Evelyn truly loved like Jesus does. She was always willing to lend a helping hand or a listening ear, never held a grudge, and extended grace to everyone. She was deeply loved and will be greatly missed.

Mary Evelyn is survived by 2 daughters, Crystal Artrip and husband Steven, Della Thomas and husband Bo, and 2 grandsons, her pride and joy, Aaron Stapleton and Andrew Phillips. She is also survived by her beloved sisters Joan Carter, Lavadeth "Kay" Toomey, Cathy Stafford, and Betty Kegley along with a host of nieces, nephews, and friends whom she dearly loved. It was Mary Evelyn's last wish that all would come to know the love of God as she did. She would encourage you to surrender your life to Jesus, so you too may come to know our Lord and Savior and one day, see her again.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, July 22, 2025, from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm at Pennington Gap Funeral Home. A funeral service will follow with pastor Mark Tabor officiating.

A committal service will follow at Pennington Memorial cemetery. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
