Major Lee Ely, 87, a native of St.Charles, Virginia, residing in Chattahoochee, Florida since 1990, passed away Monday, July 6, 2015 in Marianna, Florida.
He was born to Andrew Jackson and Madgie Grace Ely on Octorber 26, 1927. He was a U.S. Army Veteran, attaining the rank of Master Sergeant, retiring after serving honorably for his country during the Vietnam Campaigns, and then moving to Florida to enjoy the sunshine and fishing. He was predeceased by his wife, Lucille; and brother A.J. Ewing and two sisters, Thelma and Fannie. Major is survived by a brother, George Ely; a sister Minerva Newman of Cincinnati, Ohio; and many special nieces and nephews; also a special friend, Susie Felland and her husband Jim and their children; Drew, Chase and Elise of Chesapeake, Virginia.
A Prayer Service was held Wednesday, July 8, 2015 at 2:00 PM with Military Honors at Lanier-Andler Funeral Home in Sneads, Florida with Rev. Robert Johns officiating. Military Graveside Services were held at Lee Memorial Gardens in Woodway, Virginia at 1:00 PM on Saturday, July 11, 2015 with Military Honors conducted by VFW post #5715 and the local National Guard.
