Larry D. Burton, born February 20, 1949 passed away Saturday, July 9, 2016 at home in his sleep. He was a loving husband, father and papaw, he enjoyed spending time with his family. He laughed with them in the good times, cried with them in the sad times, emotionally supported and prayed for them always. He was a Vietnam Veteran serving in the Army as a Green Beret. He was of the Baptist faith, he loved the outdoors and enjoyed farming, fishing and hunting. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charley Lee and Mary Catherine Burton; one son, Earl Eugene Rose and his former wife, Juanita (Rose) Burton. He is survived by his wife, Laura Elaine Burton of the home; two sisters, Judy Parriman and Monica Fox of Brodhead, KY; five daughters, Rhonda Burton of Bristol, VA, Cary Flanary of St. Charles, VA, Violet Robbins and Janie Gibson of Pennington Gap, VA and Illine Huff (Gary) of Rogersville, TN; four sons, Jerry Rose of Paoli, IN, Chad (Tiffani) Rutherford of Jonesboro, TN, Shane (Christy) Rutherford of Big Stone Gap, VA and Steve (Veletta) Rutherford of Elizabethton, TN. He leaves behind many grandchildren including Megan Rose of Jonesboro, TN, Derrian Burton of the U.S. Marine Corps, Allyssa Gressner, Kaiden Rollins and Kameron Rollins of Bristol, VA, Sarah and Karah Huff of Roanoke, VA, Kevin Huff of Church Hill, TN, Carter Rutherford of Jonesboro, TN, Faith Rutherford of Big Stone Gap, VA and Katie Trent of Farmville, VA; honorary grandchildren Emma, Hunter and Berkley Lambert of Big Stone Gap, VA. He also leaves behind many great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 12, 2016 in the Province Funeral Home Sanctuary in Pennington Gap, VA with Rev. T.J. Jones officiating. Visitation will be held from 5:00 P.M. Tuesday until time of services. A Military graveside service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, July 13, 2016 at the Powell Valley Cemetery in Dryden, VA with the Local VFW Post # 5715 and the National Guard Honors Team officiating. Family and friends are asked to meet at the funeral home at 10:00 A.M. Wednesday to go to the cemetery. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
