Obituary

Johnny “John” Lawrence West, age 53 of Rose Hill, Virginia, left us too soon to be in the arms of Jesus on July, 9th 2026.

He was born on April, 23rd 1973 in Claiborne County, Tennessee, to Robert McKinley & Della May (Collins) West. He was a loving husband, a proud father, papaw, and brother. He was a friend to everyone, and had a knack for turning strangers into friends. Johnny was saved as a teenager in a cow pasture under a tree, and he confessed his salvation and love for the Lord daily. John was a simple and caring man, and he would give you the shirt off his back. He truly had a heart of gold. He enjoyed helping others and faithfully volunteered at the local pantry for five years. A true jack of all trades, a farmer by nature. He spent many years working on farms and working physically demanding jobs before becoming disabled. He was a true cowboy who dressed the part and loved the outdoors. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and gardening with his wife, Anita. John was a hardworking man with a passion for tinkering on small engines, woodworking, and drawing. He enjoyed history and collecting antiques, guns, knives, rocks, and coins. He loved all genres of music and enjoyed singing and dancing. Johnny had an incredible sense of humor and could make anyone laugh. No matter what life brought his way, he was always so grateful for even the smallest of blessings. These mere words could never express the depth of Dad’s love or the remarkable talent he possessed. He will be forever loved, forever remembered, and deeply missed by all that knew him. He was truly one of a kind.

He was preceded in death by his parents; Robert & Della May West; Brothers, Ruben West, Douglas West, Pete West; Sisters, Rosalee Collins, Ruby Marie(Gig) Evans, Pattie Bussell, Barbara Singleton, Norma Jean Collins; Father in Law, Lynn Bussell.
