JoAnn Gilliam Bailey, age 68 of Rose Hill, VA was born in the Left Hand Poor Valley Community of Pennington Gap, VA on Wednesday, September 3, 1947 and passed away unexpectedly at her home on Saturday, April 2, 2016. She was retired from the Lee County School System where she worked as a teachers aid and a bus driver. She loved working in arts and crafts. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was preceded in death by her mother and father, William H. and Edna Gilliam; two brothers, James Marion and Bobby Wayne Gilliam and one sister, Charlene Martin. She is survived by her husband of 49 years, James W. Bailey; one son, William Wesley (Stoney) Bailey and wife Patty of Pennington Gap; one daughter, Lisa Kay Melear and husband Lynn of Kingsport, TN; three grandchildren, Stoney James Bailey of Rose Hill, VA; Mason and Matthew Bailey of Pennington Gap, VA; two great-grandchildren and also several nieces, nephews and a host of friends. A graveside service will be held at 1:00 P.M. Thursday, April 7, 2016 at Lee memorial Gardens in Woodway, VA. Family and friends are asked to meet at the cemetery at 12:45 P.M. for the service.
