Jessie Garrett age 72 of Middlesboro, KY was born in Keokee, VA on Saturday, June 3, 1944 and passed away Wednesday, January 25, 2017 at the Holston Valley Medical Center in Kingsport, TN. He had lived in Lee County, VA until moving to Middlesboro in December of 2016. Jessie was a Veteran of the U.S. Army and a member of the Full Gospel Tabernacle in Jesus Church, in Middlesboro, KY. He was a disabled coal miner and a member of the UMWA. He was preceded in death by his parents John Patton and Sarah Ollie Garrett and several brothers and sisters. Jessie is survived by his wife Cora Garrett of the home, his children Vernon Bruce and wife, Alisha of Warsaw, IN, Cynthia Nelson and husband, Timothy of Middlesboro, KY, Felix Bruce of Lee County, VA, the mother of his children Marlena Darnell of Weber City, VA and Ishmael Bruce of Lee County, VA, grandchildren Gage Rhodes, Donavin Leavens, Felix Bruce, Gavin Rhodes, Noah Taylor, Kaylie "Sissy" Parsons and Gabriel Taylor. He is also survived by his siblings Louise Spears, Opal Henry and Frank "Shot" Garrett. Funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM Sunday at the Province Funeral Home Sanctuary in Pennington Gap, VA with Bruce Helton officiating. Visitation will be from 1:00 PM Sunday until the time of the service. A graveside service will be held at 12:00 noon Monday at the Powell Valley Cemetery in Dryden, VA. Family and friends are asked to meet at the funeral home at 11:30 AM Monday to go to the cemetery.
