James "JB" "Birdeye" Scalf age 82 of the Virginia Lee Community in St. Charles, VA was born Thursday, October 4, 1934 in Big Stone Gap, VA and passed away Wednesday, April 5, 2017 at his home. JB was a Veteran of the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He retired as a coal truck driver and a member of the Virginia Lee Baptist Church. He was preceded in death his parents William and Belvie Scalf, three sisters Doris Hertzog, Jean Burke and Sue Hollis and one brother Larry Scalf. JB is survived by his wife Patsy Scalf of the home, two sons James Scalf, Jr. and wife, Robin and Phillip Scalf all of St. Charles, VA, two daughters Robin Cox and husband, Donnie Sr. of Woodway, VA and Cindy Scalf and fianc, Jonathan Baker of Bonny Blue, VA, ten grandchildren and twenty-two great-grandchildren. He is also survived by four brothers Coy Scalf and wife, Shirley of St. Charles, VA, Charlie Scalf and Carl Scalf both of South Carolina and Joe Scalf of Indiana, one sister Linda Scalf of Tennessee and several nieces, nephews and blessed with many friends. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 PM Saturday at the Province Funeral Home Sanctuary in Pennington Gap, VA. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM Sunday, April 9, 2017 at the Province Funeral Home Sanctuary in Pennington Gap, VA with Rev. Charlie Scalf officiating. Burial will follow at Lee Memorial Gardens in Woodway, VA. Military Rites will be conducted by Local VFW Post and the Army National Guard Honors Team.
