Obituary
Grover Sexton passed away Sunday, November 13, 2022, with his beloved dog Susie by his side.
Known as Hawkeye to many of his fellow coal miners, he spent much of his life working in the mines. He was a former mining superintendent for companies including Bill Jessee Trucking, JAD Coal Company, Fox Knob Coal Company and more.
He was preceded in death by his parents Clyde and Veda Bowlin Sexton; sister Eleanor (Bud) Garrett; brothers Blaine (Sandra) Sexton and Franklin (Dee) Sexton; and grandson David Barnette, Jr.
He is survived by his wife Patricia Sexton of Kingsport, TN; his daughter Lisa (Gene) Hopkins of Harrogate, TN; sons Mike Sexton of Kingsport, TN, and David Barnette of Gate City, VA; grandchildren Lance Lewis of Pennington Gap, VA, Dakota Phillips of Jonesville, VA, Madison Lazzaro of Tallahassee, FL; Brandon Sexton and Ashley Wray both of Kingsport, TN. He is also survived by brothers Guy (Helen) Sexton, Michael "Wink" (Anita) Sexton, and Wayne (Mary Ann) Sexton all of Jonesville, VA; and sister Joan (Ova) Gibbs of Noblesville, IN; nieces, nephews, family and friends. Last but not least his beloved dog Susie.
