Gracie Johnson Payne age 90 of Ewing, VA was born Saturday, January 24, 1925 and passed away at her home on Thursday, June 25, 2015. She had been a social worker and a Head Start teacher in Lee County for 30 years and was a member of the Alanthus Hill Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband Rufus Payne, two sons Bobby Payne and Allen Payne, a daughter Diane Payne, daughter-in-law Jean Ann Maggard and five sisters and four brothers. Gracie is survived by two sons Larry Maggard of Rose Hill, VA and Ralph Payne (Carrie) of Ewing, VA, one daughter Patsy Sowders and husband, Carl Ray of Ewing, VA and special daughter Sue Taylor. She is also survived by her grandchildren Chris Payne, Roger Maggard, Jeanie Maggard, Charla Shelton (Jonathan), Michelle Langley, Terry Payne (April), Larry Allen Payne, Adam Payne (Sara), Jessica Powers (Adam), Kristy King (Michael), Amy Evans (Mitch), Kimberly McClain (Jeremy), Carla Sowders, Cara Sowders, Kelly Davis and Janie Taylor, great-grandchildren Joseph, B.J., Lora, Mary, David, Peyton, Afton, Conner, Casey, Steven, Jaelyn, Jenason, Madison, Trevor and Chase. The funeral service will be held at 8:00 pm Sunday, June 28, 2015 at the Province Funeral Home Sanctuary in Jonesville, VA with Rev. L.J. Ellis officialting. Visitation will be held from 6:00 P.M. until time of services Sunday. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Monday, June 29, 2015 at the Van Huss Grove Cemetery in Jonesville, VA. Family and friends are asked to meet at the funeral home at 10:00 A.M. Monday to go to the cemetery. Pallbearers will be Gary Bray, Terry Payne, Michael King, Adam Payne, Carla Sowders and Jonathan Shelton.
