MSG Garland C. Stables Jr., age 61 of Rose Hill, Virginia, Flatwoods Community went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, on January 3, 2017 at Indian Path Medical Center in Kingsport, TN. Garland was a former member of Spring Place Church of God of Prophecy while living in Cleveland, Tennessee. He presently attend church at Christian Life Fellowship in Jonesville, Virginia. Garland was a member of the United States Army from February 1973 to 1993. He also continued in a military capacity as an Army JROTC Instructor and Thomas Walker High School from 1993 to 2000. Garland and Kaye moved to Cleveland, TN in 2000. He continued teaching JROTC at Ooltewah Tennessee High School from 2000-2003. He then moved to the School Board office where he was the Military Property Custodian from 2003-2012 for 7 JROTC programs in Hamilton County, Tennessee until he fell ill and they moved back to Rose Hill, Virginia to be close to family. He was born in Princeton, West Virginia on August 22, 1955. He was proceeded in death by his father and mother, Garland Sr. and Martha Stables and one Grandson, Benjamin Dawson. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Evelyn "Kaye" Stables. One son Shannon Ray Stables and wife Christina Stables of Ewing, Virginia. One daughter, Amber Lynn Cavin and husband Jonathan Cavin of Rose Hill, Virginia. Nine grandchildren, Ethan, Anthony, Dawson, Dakota, Tabitha, Noah, Samantha, Caleb and Rachel. One great grandchild, Mason. Garland was an only child, but had two friends and their wives that he chose to call his brothers and sisters, Frank Tierney and wife Lynn Tierney of Lafollette, Tennessee, Bobby Carter and wife Dorothy Carter of Hinesville, Georgia. He also had a three special people in his life that he loved dearly, Ann Shiell or Ma Shiell as he called her, Travis Tierney and Ashley Tierney Bruce whom he referred to as his "Baby Girl". Garland touched so many lives through teaching JROTC, some who became a part of our family. As Garland said every day, THANK GOD FOR JESUS! Until we meet again, we will love and miss you with all our hearts! A funeral service will be held at 8:00 PM Saturday, January 7, 2017 at the Province Funeral Home Sanctuary in Jonesville, VA with Ronnie Owens officiating. Visitation will be from 6:00 PM Saturday until the time of the service. A graveside service will be held at 10:00 AM Sunday at Lee Memorial Gardens Park West. Family and friends are asked to meet at the funeral home at 9:00 AM Sunday to go to the cemetery.
