Obituary

Obituary Edith Augusta Collins, 96, of Martinsville, passed peacefully from her earthly life on Sunday, December 15, 2019 at 1:55 pm at the Grand Valley Health & Rehabilitation Center. She was one of six children born to the late Jobe and Nancy (McCracken) Pleasant. Edith was born in Lee County, Virginia, on April 13, 1923. Just shy of her sixteen birthday, Edith married Claude Elmer Collins on March 11, 1939. The two spent over forty years of marriage prior to his passing on June 24, 1980. In 1969, Edith and Claude moved to Indiana from Virginia. She gained employment in Martinsville at Harman Motive/Harman Becker in 1980 and was a steadfast employee until her retirement in 1987. Edith was of the Baptist faith. She was a loving and dedicated wife, mother and grandmother who loved to quilt, flower garden and work in her yard. All who were blessed to know her would attest that Edith was never without a pet, and she had a fondness for cats. She is survived by her loving granddaughters, Carol Lisa Kalka of Martinsville, Indiana, and Rhonda Lynn (husband, Christopher) Yeatts of San Antonio, TX; daughter-in-law, Jean Collins of Martinsville; five great grandchildren, Clint Kalka (wife, Samantha), Amber Kalka Ford (husband, Douglas), Matthew Lafata, Lena Sorrell and Chelsea Moore; and four great great grandchildren, Erin Dawn, Ella Grace and Hadassah Ford, and Nicholas Odin Kalka. Edith was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Claude Collins; two sons, Erle Douglas and Kenneth Eugene Collins; three brothers, Willard, Danner & Ellis Pleasant and two sisters, Lucy Winkler and Myrtle Harless. Family and friends are encouraged to visit on Wednesday, December 18th from 5:00 pm 7:00 pm at Neal & Summers Funeral Home, 110 E. Poston Rd., Martinsville, Indiana and from 11:00 am -1:00 pm on Friday, December 20th in Pennington Gap, VA at the Province Funeral Home, 42098 E. Morgan Ave. A service celebrating Ediths life will begin immediately following the visitation in Virginia at 1:00 pm and she will be laid to rest beside her late husband in Lee Memorial Gardens in Pennington Gap, VA.
