Dovie Virginia Gilbert Goins was born Sunday, January 11, 1931 to Dace and Mazie Baker Gilbert. She passed away on her 86th birthday, Wednesday, January 11, 2017 surrounded by her family. Dovie loved animals and enjoyed fishing, houseboating, and "playing" outdoorsanything from climbing trees to building igloos with her kids and grandkids. She will be remembered as a wonderful cook who loved to feed her family and entertain. She was full of life, mischief, and fierce love of family and friends. Dovie was preceded in death by her parents; brothers Bristo Gilbert, Harvey Gilbert, and William Avery Gilbert; sisters Maudie G. Poteet, Evada G. Coffey, Bessie G. Phipps, and Alice G. Moore; son William "Bill" Goins; and grandson James C. Goins II, infant son of James Goins and Brenda Gibson Goins. Dovie is survived by her husband of 70 years, Clarence H. Goins of Pennington Gap; sisters Viva G. Startt of Elkton, MD, and Thelma Harrell of Edgewood, NM; son James C. Goins and wife Naomi of Rogersville, TN; daughter-in-law Wilma Gibson Goins of Pennington Gap; grandchildren Crystal Goins Turner and husband Bobby of Locust Grove, VA, Joshua H. Goins and fiance Dawnna Stebbins of Pennington Gap, Mandy Goins Robbins and husband Ray of Pennington Gap, Angie Arnold and Joy Arnold of Rogersville, TN; great-grandchildren Haley Goins, Molly Turner, Cohen Turner, Rhett Robbins, Clay Robbins, Kendall Wallen, Drako Allen; and several special nieces and nephews.
