Carl E. Rains, 88, of Church Hill passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his family on Sunday, February 4, 2024.

Carl was born on April 16, 1935 in St. Charles, Virginia to the late Ethridge Rains and Lilly Mae Bronson Rains, He proudly served his country in the United States Army and Army National Guard. He retired from the Kingsport Press after over 38 years of employment. Carl was a loving father and caring grandfather who was always there for his family.

Along with his parents he is preceded in death by his wife, Nina Allen Rains; three brothers and a sister.

Those left to cherish his memory are his sons, Edward Rains, Robert Rains and wife Kim, and Daniel Rains; daughter, Carla Goforth and husband Craig; five grandchildren, four great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM on Tuesday, February 6, 2024 at Pennington Gap Funeral Home.

A graveside service will follow the visitation at Cecil-Fry Cemetery.
