Bruce Wayne Smith age 66 of the Flatwoods Community in Rose Hill, VA was born Thursday, May 24, 1951 in Middlesboro, KY and passed away Tuesday, October 17, 2017 at the Lonesome Pine Hospital in Big Stone Gap, VA. Bruce had worked as a coal miner for most of his life and was of the Baptist Faith. He was preceded in death by his parents Henry Smith and Dorothy Campbell, brothers John Henry Smith and wife, Joyce Smith, Ronald Charles Dillman and wife, Juanita Dillman, and infant brother Jackie Lane Smith, brother-in-law Rick Sulfridge. Bruce is survived by one son Adam Smith and wife, Laci of Flatwoods, VA, two daughters Kim Thacker and Paul Martinez of Middlesboro, KY, Sandra Barnett and husband, Kevin of Flatwoods, VA, mother of his children Diana Smith of Middlesboro, KY, eight grandchildren Courtney Thacker, Hailey Thacker, Jacob Thacker, Bane Martinez, Coop Barnett, Markus Wheet, Dorothy Smith, Ronnie Smith and Lucas Smith. He is also survived by one brother Donnie Smith and wife, Karen of London, KY, five sisters Patsy Dandois and husband, Steve of Pennsylvania, Diane Barton and husband, Barney of Powell Valley, TN, Teresa Masingo and husband, Jack of Sharps Chapel, TN, Regina Hill of Harrogate, TN, and Barbara Sulfridge of Tazewell, TN and a very special host of nieces, nephews and cousins. A funeral service will be held at 7:00 PM Friday, October 20, 2017 at the Province Funeral Home Sanctuary in Jonesville, VA with Rev. Darryl Wilder officiating. Visitation will be from 5:00 PM Friday until the time of the service. A graveside service will be held at 12:00 noon Saturday at the Hamblen Cemetery on Flatwoods Rd. in Rose Hill, VA. Family and friends are asked to meet at the cemetery at 11:45 AM Saturday for the service.
