Bruce
Ely
June 7, 1959 – June 14, 2023
Bruce Douglas Ely, age 64, of Duffield, Virginia (the Stickleyville community) passed away Wednesday morning, June 14, 2023 at his residence. He was born in Norton VA on June 7, 1959 a son of the late Carl and Mattie Shuler Ely.
Bruce was a skilled carpenter and mechanic, a Jack of all trades and a master of many. As a younger man, Bruce traveled the country doing construction. He would often fondly say his ass has more miles on it than a Greyhound bus. Bruce lit up a room when he walked in. He would shake every man's hand and woo every woman with his charisma. He loved making people smile and always believed everyone should have a smile on their face. He never knew the word "no", and was always there with a helping hand, words of infinite wisdom, or a listening ear. Bruce was loyal to a fault, and wanted nothing more for the day than a simple can of Coke and a cigarette. He was a chevy fanatic and could tell you the make and model of a car from miles away just from the sound of the engine. Bruce enjoyed spending time working outdoors and never missed an opportunity to spend time with his family, whom he loved more than anything in this world. He was of the Baptist faith.
Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his 2 brothers: Jeffery Ely and J C Christian along with a sister: Kathy Denson
