Betty Lou Scott, age 78, of Pennington Gap, VA, passed away Saturday, December 9, 2023.

Betty was born on December 15, 1944 in Lee County, and was a lifelong resident of Lee County, VA. She formerly attended St. Charles First Baptist Church. Betty was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend

She was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Arnold David Scott; two infant children, Dwayne Scott and Brenda Scott; parents, Tom Cooper and Carrie Stapleton Cooper; sisters, Connie Petry and Judy Ann Cooper.

Those left to cherish her memory are her sons, David Stapleton of Pennington Gap, VA, and Bucky Kirk and wife, Stacey, of Bogart, GA; granddaughter, Megan Snyder; ten grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren; brothers, John Benfield, Eddie Joe Cooper, and Tom Cooper Jr.; sister, Joyce Cooper; along with several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Tuesday, December 12, 2023 at Pennington Gap Funeral Home.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, December 13, 2023 at 11:00 AM with Pastor Paul Davis, Jr officiating in the funeral home chapel. A committal service will follow at Lee Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be Lil Dave Scott, Bucky Kirk, Jacob Scott Lawson, Elijah Lucas Stapleton, Tucker Kirk, and Aidan Kirk.
