Betty McElroy age 67 of Stickleyville, VA was born Friday, December 3, 1948 in Lee County, VA and passed away Tuesday, July 5,2016 at the Johnson City Medical Center. Betty retired from the Lee County Public School System and was of the Baptist Faith. She enjoyed reading her Bible, doing crossword puzzles and loved flowers and the outdoors. She was preceded in death by her parents Rhea and Kate Bledsoe, brothers Murel, Ubb, Larry and Johnnie Bledsoe and one sister Phyllis Bledsoe. Betty is survived by her husband of forty years Eugene McElroy of the home, one son Kevin McElroy and wife, Aimee of Stickleyville, VA, one daughter Kristy Thacker and husband, Eric of Stickleyville, VA. She is also survived by her special grandchildren Benjamin McElroy, Amber McElroy and Fiance, Will, one brother Jim Bledsoe and wife, Lou of Duffield, VA, one sister Shirley Gilliam of Gloucester, VA, sisters-in-law Jean Bledsoe of York, SC, Lena Bledsoe of Jonesville, VA, several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the doctors and staff at Johnson City Medical Center. A funeral service will be held at 8:00 PM Thursday, July 7, 2016 at the Province Funeral Home Sanctuary in Pennington Gap, VA with Rev. Bob Grider and Paul Davis, Jr. officiating. Visitation will be from 6:00 pm Thursday until the time of the service. A graveside service will be at 12:00 noon Friday at the Bledsoe Cemetery on Middle Wallens Creek Rd. in Jonesville, VA. Family and friends are asked to meet at the funeral home at 11:00 AM Friday to go to the cemetery.
