Betty Ruth Ely, age 76 of the Dryden Community was born on April 7, 1940 in Lee County, VA and passed away December 17, 2016 at the Lonesome Pine Hospital in Big Stone Gap, VA. She was a homemaker and of the Pentecostal faith. She enjoyed working in the garden, loved cooking holiday meals, spending time with her family and friends and loved going to church. She was preceded in death by her mother Allie Harless and her father Phillip Harless; her sisters, Veola Robinette and Lania Bell Pardon; her brothers, W.D. Harless and Frank Harless. She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Harold Ely of the home; three sons, Gary Ely, Donnie Ely and David Mitchell Ely and wife Michelle of Dryden, VA; six grandchildren, Jennifer Young, Christina Harvel, Crystal Cody, David Ely II, Michael Ely and Kristie Fritz; two step-grandchildren, Danielle Davis and Kayla Davis; two great-grandchildren, Connor Fritz and Danial Young; four step-great-grandchildren, Madison Newton, Jacop Davis, Navaeh Durham and Dayah Durham; one sister, Ona Ely of the Big Hill Community; also several nieces and nephews and many other family and friends. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Thursday, December 22, 2016 in the Province Funeral Home Sanctuary in Pennington Gap, VA with Mark Tabor officiating. Visitation will be held from 1:00 P.M. Thursday until time of services. Entombment will follow at Lee Memorial Gardens in Woodway, VA. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
