Obituary

Obituary Barbara Ann Cope, age 76, joined her Heavenly Father on September 16, 2020. Barbara was born January 2, 1944 in her home in the Jonesville area where she lived most of her life. She married her high school sweetheart in 1961. She attended Knoxville Business College and then went to work for The Department of Navy followed by the 1st US Army Headquarters. After moving back home to Virginia, she began her banking career at Lee Bank & Trust and then to Farmers and Miners Bank. She retired this year after 36 years of dedication, with a short intermission of being a stay at home mommy. Barbara was a member of the Friendship Baptist Church. Our mom loved the Lord and her family more than words could ever express. She was a shining ray of light in what can often feel like a very dark world. Her faith and spirit were pure. She was loved and cherished by many and we can only hope that the beautiful memories we share will bring some small measure of comfort. In most recent days, Barbara was enjoying retirement by sitting on her swing coloring and watching "Netflick" as she called it. You never caught her without a book in her hand or her dogs by her side. She had the sweetest, most innocent laugh and always knew the right thing to say. She enjoyed FaceTiming and using all the new filters. She was the glue that held us together and our source of strength. She is the true definition of sacrifice, she put her family first and herself last, always. Barbara is now walking hand in hand with her sweet love, Harold after missing him for 20 years. She is also reunited with open arms by her Mother and Daddy, Alice & Steve Saylor and nephew, Richard Wood. She is embracing Kassidy Grace and Baby Cope with her never ending Grandmom love. She was loved by her children Kim Roop with Dennis, Tami Burgan with Tim, Kristi Miles with Cecil, and Stephen Cope with Lisa. Barbara was blessed with and cherished by her many grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was Grandmom to Jesse with Kristen, Justin with Alisha, Caitlyn with Justin, Tyler and Conner. Jordan with Kelly, Ashley with Jared, Taylor and Kyndall. Kacey and Kody. Kelsey and Gracie. She was Great grandmom to TJ, Declan, Paytin, Sophia, Liam, Reagan, Jaxon. Brycen and Ryder, and she was affectionately known to Mia and Hudson as Gigi. She grew up with the nickname Bobbie and was a loving middle sister to Peggy Edwards and Patti Wood. She had many special nieces and nephews -Cherie, Jeremiah, Brittny and Zach, Randy and Matthew, Lisa and Brandy. Our mom loved nothing more than a full house filled with laughter, love and family.
