Obituary A.W. 'Dub' Garrett, 81 of Elys Creek, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, November 27th, 2018. He was a born again Christian, an Army Veteran, and a retired coal miner. A.W. was preceded in death by his parents, Arvil and Elizabeth 'Lizzie' Garrett, son Patrick David Garrett, and brothers Dixie Garrett, Charles Garrett, Green Vanzant, L.C. Vanzant, and J.B. Vanzant. He is survived by his loving wife, Mary Garrett of the home; one son Dennis Garrett of Woodway; three granddaughters, Crystal Phillips and husband, Perry Della Christian and husband Jeffery, and Rebecca McMahan and husband Paul; three great-grandchildren, Aaron Stapleton, Andrew Phillips, and Cheyenne Sluss; several step-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Roy Garrett of Friendsville, TN and Ted Garrett of Dryden, VA; two sisters, Shirley Sanders of Jonesville, VA and Bertha Mae Wynn of Thorn Hill, TN. He is also survived by his first wife and mother of his children, Peggy S. Garrett of Keokee, VA, special sisters-in-law; Mildred Garrett, Emily Garrett, and Emma Ruth Garrett, and many nieces, nephews, beloved family and friends. He will be missed by all. Visitation will be from 12:00 until 2:00 PM Sunday, December 2, 2018 at the Province Funeral Home in Pennington Gap, VA. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 PM Sunday with Pastor Mark Tabor and Rev. Roger Rowe to officiate with burial to follow at Pennington Memorial Cemetery in Pennington Gap, VA. Military Rites will be conducted by local VFW Posts and the Army National Guard Honors Team.
