Augusta
Sinon
October 10, 1945 – April 13, 2025
Augusta Faye Combs Sinon, 79, of Jonesville, passed away on Sunday, April 13, 2025 at her residence. She was born in Middlesboro, KY hospital on October 10, 1945 to Lee County, VA parents R.L. (Bob) Combs and Della M Edens Combs. Her grandparents were M.O. (Meb) and Amanda Chance Combs of Lee County, and W.S. (Sherman) and Frances J. Louthan Edens of Hancock County, TN. Augusta grew up in the Beech Grove Community of Lee County and graduated from Flatwoods High School in 1963. She left home for Knoxville Business College and graduated in 1964. She and a friend then traveled to Washington D.C. to work for the Naval Department. While there she married William Gerard Sinon who preceded her in death on June 30, 2024.
Augusta and her husband moved to Fort Bragg, NC in 1967 where she began working for the United States Army and on to Honolulu, HI in 1968 where she again worked for the Army. The couple returned to Lee County in 1973, and Augusta was employed by the Social Security Administration Hearing Office in Middlesboro, KY. They lived in the Caylor Community of Lee County during most of those years. She retired in 1997 after more than 30 years of government service to care for her mother. Sometime after her mother's passing in 2007, the couple returned to Augusta's home community of Beech Grove where she remained until her passing.
Augusta was a member of the Beech Grove Baptist Church but had attended the Campground UMC Church for the last several years prior to her death. She was also a member of Major George Gibson Chapter of DAR and was a lifelong animal lover, especially cats, chickens, and cows. Augusta's closet known survivors are maternal first cousins, most of whom live in the Louisville, KY area. She will be laid to rest in the Mountain Home VA Cemetery next to her husband. No formal services will be planned.
Augusta Faye Combs Sinon and her family are in the care of Powell Valley Funeral Home.
