Alvin Bruce Copeland, age 73, of Jonesville, VA went to be with the Lord Monday afternoon, August 24, 2026, while at the Norton Community Hospital.
He was born July 30, 1953, in Pennington Gap a son of Billy Bruce and Eulalah (Kirk) Copeland. He received his bachelor's degree in accounting in 1974 after attending Lincoln Memorial University and began a career that spanned over 40 years. Most of those years were spent working for the Hubbs family in Harlan Co., KY doing the accounting for the many different business operations. That working relationship brought many lifelong friendships. He was of the Baptist faith and attended Calvary Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his father; Billy Bruce Copeland, his beloved wife of 48 years; Carolyn (Hilton) Copeland (2022) and an infant daughter; Sheila Ann Copeland.
Alvin is survived by his mother; Eulalah (Kirk) Flanary of Pennington Gap. One son; Bruce Copeland and wife Kellie of Pennington Gap. One daughter; Tamela Collins and husband Jeff of Rose Hill. Four Grandchildren whom he adored and was so very proud of; Aiden, Addison, Anna Belle and Hunter. One brother; Jeff Copeland and wife Jan of Jonesborough, TN. Several nieces, nephews, cousins and other family members also survive along with a host of friends; including the Hubbs family of Cawood, KY.
The family will receive friends Saturday morning from 11 until 12 noon at the Pennington Gap Funeral Home. A funeral service will follow at noon in the funeral home chapel with Dr. Charles Barrier and Larry Hart officiating. Burial will follow in the Lee Memorial Gardens where he will be laid to rest next to his wife. Pallbearers will be Bruce Copeland, Aiden Copeland, Jeff Collins, Hunter Collins, Jeff Copeland and Harold Spurlock. Honorary pallbearers will be Clark Kirk, Clayel Kirk, Larry Hart and Gary Hubbs.
