Samuel Dan Sharp, 92, of Gate City, Virginia formerly of St. Charles, Virginia went to be with the Lord on Thursday, August 10, 2023 at Lee Health and Rehab.

Sam was born on August 29, 1930 in St. Charles, Virginia to the late Lee and Minnie Sharp. Sam worked as a young man at Homeland Market in St. Charles and retired from the convenience store in Dot. He was a member of the Christian Church of St Charles, then Beacon Light Baptist Church, and then transferred membership to Roadside Baptist Mission Church. He proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1951-1953 during the Korean Conflict. Sam was well known for his hotdog chili, bologna sandwiches, quick whit and corny jokes. He never knew a stranger. Everywhere he went people knew Sam.

Along with his parents he is preceded in death by his first wife, Shirley Sharp; grandson, Gary Samuel "Sam" Edens; brothers, Hubert Sharp and Daniel Sharp; and sisters, Vera Hampton and Selma Poe.

Sam is survived by his wife, Elizabeth "Libby" Huff Sharp; daughter, Belinda Potts and husband Steve; grandchildren, Stephanie Young and husband Jason and Jessica Edens and fiance' Andy Gomez; great grandchildren, Chloe Young, Luke Young, Gavin Young, and Kalvary Stephenson; step daughter, Julie Maldon and husband David; along with several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM on Sunday, August 13, 2023 at Pennington Gap Funeral Home. A funeral Service will follow with Rev. Phillip Lane and Pastor Paul Davis Jr. officiating.

A graveside service will be held at 10:00 AM on Monday, August 14, 2023 at Lee Memorial Gardens. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet at the funeral home by 9:30 AM to go in procession. Jason Young, David Maldon, Allen Weddle, Steve Potts, Andy Osborne, Luke Young, and Gavin Young will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearer, Arnold Roberson.
